By January 2027, Gmail users who depend on third-party send-as and POP imports will have to migrate to forwarding or desktop clients, and Google is unlikely to reverse the cutoff.

This is a meaningful product retreat from one of Gmail’s most useful legacy features. It will force power users back into multiple apps or desktop clients and further lock Gmail into Google’s own ecosystem.
